Kathirikai Thatapayaru Gravy

Black eyed pea or black eyed beans are a variety of cow pea. This recipe is with Tamarind juice and Coconut paste. fried brinjal will enhance its flavor.you can pair with any of vegetables like drumstick,potato or yam.. Thatapayaru brinjal will suit well for hot rice with papad for lunch.



Ingredients

1 cup Thatapayaru

7 to 8 Brinjal (cut into pieces)

6 to 7 Small Onion (cut it into slices)

4 to 5 Garlic (finely chopped)

3 Red Chilly

1 Small Tomato

1 lemon shape tamarind(soak in water for 20 mins)

3 tsp Coconut paste

2 tsp Sambar Powder

1 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

1 tsp Mustard seeds

a pich of Jaggery

few curry leaves



Steps to Follow

1.Wash & Soak Thatapayaru for 2 hours.

2.Heat a pan, add oil ,once oil is hot add mustard seeds,red chilly & Curry Leaves

3.Add small onions, garlic and saute nicely till raw smell goes

4.Add brinjal and fry it nicely

5.When brinjal get's fried up add Tomato,Turmeric powder and Sambar powder with salt

6.Now, add soaked thatapayaru with water and close the lid and keep it in medium flame for 10 mins

7.Add Coconut paste, a pinch of Jaggery and let it boil for 3 to 4 mins

8.Once it starts boil add Tamarind juice after 5 mins switch off the flame

9.Garnish with Coriander leaves.
