Ingredients:
Fish -500 Gms
Fenugreek seeds-1/4 tsp
Curry leaves- few
Onion-1
Tomato-1
Coriander powder-3 tsp
Chilli powder-2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Tamarind pulp-1/2 cup ( as thick paste)
Salt as required
For sauté and grind:
Small onions- 15 to 20 nos
Big onion-1
Garlic - 7-8 pods
Ginger- 1/4 inch
Curry leaves-few
Fennel seeds /Sombhu-1tsp
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Pepper-1/4 tsp
Red chilli-3 or 4
Coconut-1/2 cup
Steps to prepare:
1. Clean the fish pieces with turmeric and salt , keep aside
2. Heat a pan with oil and sauté the ingredients except coconut until brown
3. Cool and blend the mixture into a fine paste
4. Heat the same pan add mustard seeds, once splutter add fenugreek seeds and then add onion and sauté till brown
4. Then add tomato , sauté till mushy.
5. Add the spice powders coriander powder, red chilli powder, tamarind pulp and add water and allow it to boil for 5 to 10 mins
6. Now add the grinded mix to the pan and allow to boil till the raw smell leaves off the pan.
7. Add the fish pieces and leave it for 5 mins in a low flame until fish pieces are cooked well
Garnish the Fish kulambhu with coriander leaves and serve with idly or rice
